Is metal rust bad for veg garden compost?
I want to build a compose bin using a metal drum. I am troubled by the question whether or not rust would be bad for compose. Try our best to ensure the garden is organic and free from pesticides and other harmful substances.
No. Iron Oxide (what rust is) is common in many soils, and iron is a human nutrient, too.
I think your compost bin might have a short life being made of steel, but I don’t think there’s any harm to the compost.

what would the soil compost ratio be for a good veggie garden?
i want to have a raised bed veggie garden and i’m not sure about the soil, compost ratio. thanks in advance!
It really depends on the condition of your topsoil, but I think the more compost, the better. It’s the organic matter in the compost that contains so many of the useful nutrients that your plants require to thrive. In fact I have grown a number of plants in just compost (mixed with 20-25% peat moss to loosen up the mix). My potatoes did great in this environment.
It’s always a good idea to have your soil tested by your county or state’s cooperative extension service. Depending on what it’s made from, some composts can have very low ph, and require the addition of some lime to bring the ph level up to a point that your plants will enjoy. The test is usually either free or very cheap, and they can tell you what your soil is lacking, so you can amend the soil the best way possible.
There’s far more to know than I can write here. Read all you can about it. I hope this information is helpful Best of luck to you.

Can you add cooked leftovers into home garden compost bins?
I have heard this shouldn’t be done, and I would like to know why.
Also it interferes with the reaction of the vegetative growth, and any meat will also attract rats, skunks, etc. Skunks and raccoons where we live are riddled with rabies, so if you have kids or pets, do not do it. It also can stink very bad. Meat, oil, butter etc. Steamed veggies with no sauce or anything should be okay, but not with butter or oil.

What have we been up to? seedling update, buying city compost, building more raised garden beds
since we lent out our usual camera, we couldn’t make a video update so you will have to just watch some photos of what we have been up to. this video includes an update on our seedlings in the house as well as what is growing outside; we shoveled city compost into the trunk of our car then had to shovel it out into our backyard; we picked up wood and began assembling some new raised bed garden frames
