Are there any good compost pails for kitchens that don't smell?

I'm looking for something that hangs under my sink on a cupboard door, that I can bring outside when it's full. Any ideas of who makes one?

We use a little green composter with a carbon filter. It hangs on screws and doesn't smell. We can put it in the dishwasher as well. We like it!
PS says Busch Systems on the bottom – http://www.buschsystems.com
Hope that helps!
Cathy

Where can I put compost if I don’t have a garden?

I want to compost my kitchen/biodegradeable waste and am going to get a little compost crock to keep in the kitchen. However since I live in a flat, I don’t have a garden to put the compost on once it’s degraded. Any suggestions for what I can do with it?

Have you heard of worm composting? It's an organic gardeners dream. I just bought 1500 red worms and now I am composting all my veggie & fruit kitchen scraps along with newspapers. I doesn't smell at all. The worms eat twice their weight is scraps a day. And they produce the absolute best fertilizer (worm castings) which you could sell at Farmers Markets on the weekends since you don't have a garden. Or put an ad on Craig's list. It's a great way to recycle, reduce carbon emissions and make a little extra money.

Also the worms will reproduce and you can sell them to organic gardeners to start their own worm ranch. .

Can you compost in an apartment?

I live on the 7th floor of an apartment. I have a gigantic balcony with room for a small container. Is it possible to have compost without grass clipings and other weed materials. Can I compost with just veggies and friut remains from my kitchen? If so, what do I after I have filled the container with the scraps?

your best bet is a worm farm. I've got one on my balcony and i just add fruit and vegie scraps, the worms eat it and out comes good quality compost. A compost heap will probably not work as they can smell as they decompose, but no such problems with the worms. Get one from the hardware store(Mine's called Can of Worms)

why did i get another kitchen bin when i needed my compost bin?

my postcode nn11 9bt

Think you had best ask whoever it was who delivered the kitchen bin. Hope you get your compost bin, we all need to do our bit recycling. Good for the garden too, and helps save a bit of money as well as the planet.

Does anyone know where I can get a compost bin that will take kitchen scraps and produce a small enough amount

The council do recycling bins but they're big, and we're worried about having loads of compost we can't use. The rest of the question should have read small enough for a few planters.

Check WormsWay.com it is a hydroponic store that has plenty of info on composting. You can buy units that break down the compost without stinking your house up.it makes very good nutrients for plants

How do I get my compost pile to compost?

I have a compost pile that is made up of mostly kitchen/food waste. Lots of veggies, fruits, coffee grounds, tea bags and some animal leftovers. The pile is about three months old and growing nicely, but it does not seem to change much. I water a few times a week, but do I need to do anything else? Turn it, water more, etc.

food waste is fine, animal waste isn’t. my compost pile is mostly yard waste and non animal kitchen scraps (meat of any kind, egg shells are o.k.). the old saying for composting is; a layer of green (fresh), then a layer of brown (dirt). the first two years all my pile did was get larger, then i read somewhere that pouring stale (flat) soda on it would excite the microbes and bugs to do their work on it. you could also pour a cup of sugar into a pail of water and pour it over the pile, it works just as well. i now have two piles side by side, the current one i add to, and the old one from last year. i spread the old material in my gardens in the spring, then turn (flip) the new pile from the top to the bottom onto where the old pile was, this is the only time that i turn it. that flipped pile is now the old pile and anything new goes to start the next ‘new’ pile. maintaining my compost piles this way saves a lot of work with a shovel or fork, and my old back! the only down side is that you have to wait that first year to have any compost. i guess i’m either lazy enough to have waited or patient enough, LOL! good luck, hope this works for you too.
p.s. i don’t throw any weeds into the compost pile either, why plant them next year after pulling them this year!!

Can I use grass clippings treated with weedkiller in my compost heap?

IM starting a compost heap. IM going to include kitchen waste and want to add grass clippings. I usually treat my lawn a couple of times with fertilser combined with weedkiller to green up the grass & remove dandylions/thistles etc. Will it be ok to use clippings a few weeks after the weedkiller has been applier? Im worried and residue may taint the compost.

No,you must not put grass cuttings in compost which have been treated with weed killer. It is recommended that such clippings be stored seperately for at least 6 cuttings and for the minimum of 6 months……………….
