Worm farms and compost bin?
Ok, this may be a silly question, but is it feasible to combine a worm farm with your compost bin? I have a compost bin so naturally all my raw food scraps go in that – can’t I just add worms?! Otherwise I would make a worm farm but then that takes away material from my compost bin. Ideas would be welcome thanks.
Sure. My mom had something like that. She had a big Rubbermaid tub with holes poked into the bottom nestled inside of another big Rubbermaid tub. It had one of those snap, plastic tops on it and she kept her worms and compost in it. Then when she needed to water plants, she used the liquid that drained into the bottom tub. She called it “worm tea.”

Vermicompost: Our Worm Bin Rocks!
As you might remember, we made a new worm bin after our original bin failed. This new one is doing great! The drainage holes in the bottom have helped keep it moist but not too wet, the shallow shape allows the worms to get to everything faster and the blending of food scraps allows the worms to eat right away. Today we harvest all the rich vermicompost (soil) and sprinkle it into one of our garden beds. Potted plants also LOVE this stuff. I’ve brought back to life more than one of our …

does anyone know whats better a worm bin or a compost pile?
by better i mean which works better and does anyone have plans for one that will work for at least 50 people
For that many people, a compost pile is probably a better situation. The local extension service should have lots of info on how to do it. Worm bins are great if you don't have room for a compost pile or it isn't allowed in your neighborhood. It is basically an indor compost pile and the worms do a great job of turning the vegetable scraps into soil quickly. Again, your local extension service should have plans on how to build one, but if you are talking that many people, it would be a BIG worm bin!

Has anyone used the 'Worm Factory' compost bin?
I'm thinking about buying it, but I'd like to know if it's easy enough for beginners to start with. What is the maintenance like? Is it hard to keep the worms alive?
Thanks so much!!
looked it up, it looks easy enough
