What to do with compost wastes if I have no garden?
I really would like to compost my food wastes but have really no idea how I can re-use them since I don’t have a garden – any ideas?
use it to pot house plants or give to a neighbour, hanging baskets, window boxes, big pots to ahve on a patio…im thinking surely you have garden space if you have room for a compost bin.
It is important that you get a good mix when you compost so you need greens (like food, grass cuttings or living plant stuff) and browns (dead leaves, twigs, card, paper) or the compost will be sludgy.
Also if you are going to keep the bin on a congrete surface, place an absorbant material at the bottom of the bin like (natural fibre) carpet as there will be liquid produced which will seep out of the bottom of the bin due to the rotting down process. This is very nutritious to plants so you could plant some things around the base to make use of this.
Good luck!!!

If all you are composting is kitchen vegetable scraps, then you really aren’t producing unmanageable amounts of compost. The estimates I seem to run across indicate that organic material is reduced by 75% when composted.
Once the scraps have turned into compost, you can spoon it onto your indoor potted plants OR pass the compost to your neighbors with potted plants. You can also save it, and dump the composted material beneath a street tree or in a public park.
Here’s a link for building your own counter top compost system out of a plastic soda pop bottle.

Any plans or space to start a garden? How about a neighbor? Don’t assume you can’t work with a neighbor in need of good ole fashion compost. We do this all the time with our friends locally.

contact your local composting association or council, as there may be a community composting scheme operating in your area.
if you have a paved area (but no garden as such), you could remove one of the slabs and have a small compost area. you can use the compost for potted plants.
if no garden at all, then a wormery is an excellent option.

Hello Juliette,
Is very good you are interested in compost your food waste, but if you has not a jarden you have two options, it depends of yours desires, if you like you can make a mini jarden (2 o 3) plants in a window is enought, but if your compost is a larger amount you should deliver it toa a public jarden, maybe in the camp you can find a tree that could need your compost.
good luck

All you really need is a bucket, with a lid, into which you can empty your food waste (not meat waste of course). It might get a bit smelly though if kept indoors – but it is worth doing because you do end up with a lovely earthy mix which can be used to top up house plants or window boxes, or even to pass onto someone who has a garden – if you’re feeling generous. I compost all kitchen (not meat) and garden waste – it makes me feel good that’s why I do it!
