Can I use grass clippings treated with weedkiller in my compost heap?

IM starting a compost heap. IM going to include kitchen waste and want to add grass clippings. I usually treat my lawn a couple of times with fertilser combined with weedkiller to green up the grass & remove dandylions/thistles etc. Will it be ok to use clippings a few weeks after the weedkiller has been applier? Im worried and residue may taint the compost.

No,you must not put grass cuttings in compost which have been treated with weed killer. It is recommended that such clippings be stored seperately for at least 6 cuttings and for the minimum of 6 months……………….

I personally would not do that. If you were to use this compost on vegetable plants you will digest this stuff possibly.
Also remeber to watch the ratio of clippings to other items in the compost. Too much grass is not good.

Depends on the ratios really. If you use a lot of weedkiller; if there will be a lot of grass cuttings on the heap…
The weedkiller residue might accumulate in the compost. Not good if you intend on using the compost for growing veg.
If there is only a small ratio of w/k being used, then fire the grass on the heap, the grass will have the added nutrition of the fertiliser too. try the compost on some unimportant plants first to see if it kills them.

No, that stuff can be cumulative, build up in your compost, and everything you use it on will be sickly or die. It is a toxic substance.

Definitely not , I have been composting house and garden waste for about two years and its really worth the effort . Do you have to use weed killer there are plenty of other ways of getting rid of weeds.

no you can not put your grass clippings in the compost heap as us every day gardeners do not compost enough to get a very hot temperature to kill of the substance but please recycle it as they do get very hot temps that kill all forms of plant problems

Grass clippings are anaerobic and too many in your compost heap will turn slimy and not break down for a long time. Take them to the local dump and put them on the green waste to save this happening and avoid nasty chemicals reappearing in your flower/veg beds

I would like to ask another question on that topic:

If you put grass cutting in your compost heap, whether it has weedkillir in or not. And you use the compost when ready in your garden, will the grass start growing in the garden. There could perhaps be small grass seeds that survive the decomposing process and start growing when it reaches the garden again. This could be a nightmare taking at grass from the garden where you used the compost.
