Gardening update, composting, need help dealing with hungry deer!
Another brief sidetrack from the silver topics because I had some viewers asking for an update on the garden. All the weeds are pulled, the soil is tilled, and about half the beds are now either seeded or seedling’d.
If you don’t compost, please look into it! It’s free, very easy to do, and has about a zillion benefits both for yourself and for the planet. Whether or not you garden, you should compost.
Please comment or message me if you know any good deer-repelling methods. I’ve already heard of peeing on your yard (no comment) so don’t bother with that one. As for a fence, I can’t, the terrain is too crazy and I don’t have money to put into a fence right now anyway. I can’t get a dog at the moment so that one’s out too. Oh yeah and in my area we can’t shoot wild animals within city limits, so that’s out. I’d rather not throw rocks, because I don’t like hurting other animals… but I will protect my food! Alternatives that aren’t harmful to the deer, expensive, or damaging to the planet would be best. Thanks!

Kellogg Sewage Sludge “Compost” Scam
John Stauber, author and adviser to the Food Rights Network, reveals one of the biggest toxic scams in America, sewage sludge being sold as garden “compost” for growing vegetables. What looks like a bag of organic compost is really derived from toxic sewage sludge. No law requires that sewage sludge be labeled, so the sewage industry now “composts” their sludge waste with wood chips, puts it in bags, and disposes of it by duping unsuspecting gardeners into putting it on their gardens. Kellogg Garden Products and the Environmental Media Association are corporate partners. Kellogg contributes its products to EMA, and EMA greenwashes Kellogg’s image and its sludge-as-compost scam. Mindbites: How to Make Organic Compost
http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/136-how-to-make-organic-compost
Marisol works at the Oasis Gardens in Austin, Tx. This wholly organic farm produces bountiful produce of such beauty and splendor the likes of which your local grocery store has probably never seen.
In this lesson, with a pleasant degree of pep and vivaciousness, she divulges everything there is to know about homemade organic compost.
Composting is a beneficial activity for many reasons, one being that it keeps easily decomposable organic waste out of the already over-flowing junkyards were it will most likely sit wedged between piles old Coke Zero bottles and discarded America Online start-up discs. And, for the home gardener, the benefits from your own compost heap are astronomical.
It’s simple, easy, and environmentally concise…a triple whammy!
