Apartment composting?

I live in a small apartment with a balcony. I would like to compost, and have looked at urban composting, but I think it's too big. A worm bin would probably be the best, but how often do you have to put things in it? If I left on vacation for two weeks, or didn't have much food waste for a while, would they survive?

You can compost in a very small area. You must be looking at those large home composting things. You can compost in any container that works for your space. Just be sure to keep out grease and animal products. A bioactivator can help you get started too. They usually have it at any hardware store. Compost done correctly will not smell or cause any issues so just figure out the container and get started!
